Affordable Housing Societies (AHS) has been providing affordable rental housing in the Lower Mainland since 1982. With 69 projects and 4,053 homes across 16 municipalities, AHS is now the largest non-profit housing provider in British Columbia.

We are continuing our series highlighting the team members at Terra and the experiences and perspectives they bring to our work.   

In this Staff Spotlight,  we’re  introducing  Maryam  Bakhshifatasami,  Accountant  at Terra, who brings a wealth of experience in finance and accounting.  

On August 11, Terra and project partners gathered at 172 Cordova Street in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside to celebrate the start of construction on an 11-storey mixed-use development that will provide homes for intergenerational families, seniors, Elders, and people with disabilities. Ground-floor retail spaces for local vendors, a new home for UBC Learning Exchange, a shared community theatre for local community arts groups, and an 11th-floor gathering space are also included in the project. Together, these spaces will support connection, learning, arts, and community life in the Downtown Eastside.   

For more than 50 years, Langley Lions Housing Society has been serving the Langley community through affordable housing for seniors and residents with low incomes. Since 2003, Terra has worked alongside LLHS, helping translate that vision into a long-term redevelopment strategy that will deliver more than 1,000 new homes across five buildings—creating lasting benefits for current and future generations.

Construction is now underway at 2776 Semlin Drive in East Vancouver, marking a significant milestone for the Lakeview United project. Led by Three Point Housing Society (3PHS), this mixed-use development will deliver new rental housing and renewed community space to the neighbourhood.

In this Staff Spotlight, we’re introducing Natalie Good, Office Manager at Terra, whose background in culture, operations, and people shapes the day-to-day experience of our team. 

This past week, Terra Housing sponsored and attended the Urban Development Institute's sold-out “Celebrating Women 2026: Navigating the Shift: Leading Through Complexity” — an evening that illustrated the importance of diverse voices and cross-sector collaboration to the future of real estate development in BC. 

This past fall brought meaningful progress on two deeply needed housing projects: the Kelowna Women’s Shelter second‑stage housing development and Cythera Transition House Society’s Bernice Gehring House. Each project reflects the strength, vision, and advocacy of the organizations leading them. In our role as development consultant, we guided our clients through the complexity of project development, managed funder requirements, and kept the project team on track into construction.

After four decades building our expertise and with new leaders emerging in the sector and our organization, we wanted to tell our story with new clarity.

Construction has officially begun on Dickson Manor in Summerland, BC, located within the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Syilx People of the Okanagan Nation. 

Terra is honoured to partner with Lu’ma Development Management (LDM), in the development of the Aboriginal Land Trust’s Indigenous Housing and Healing Centre—a transformative project set to complete construction in 2025. 

Terra is pleased to welcome Dan Watson to our team as a Development Manager. Dan is an urban planner who is passionate about transforming communities into vibrant places that thrive socially, economically, and environmentally. Adept at creative problem-solving and navigating complex development processes, he’s dedicated to making cities better for everyone.

We are proud to announce that this year, Terra will be marking four decades of dedication to supporting affordable, sustainable communities throughout British Columbia. Since our founding in 1984, Terra has specialized in social purpose real estate, helping to harness the value of real estate assets for the benefit of communities, residents, members, and homeowners.

In celebration of this milestone, we are also excited to announce the formation of a newly expanded leadership team. This includes three new partners, Kelly Lin,Albert Huang, and Andrew Jones, who represent the next generation of Terra.
