Driver House

Driver House

Terra provided development services to the Society to create this project which features 25 units of affordable housing for Indigenous elders, singles and families. The building plan was inspired by the outstretched wings of a soaring eagle protecting the community and features numerous environmental innovations.

Terra worked diligently to ensure the project stayed true to the Society’s vision for the project despite numerous challenges. These included changes to the scope of the project, which was initially supposed to include a daycare and the difficulty of building in the north within restrictive budget constraints resulting in the project moving from construction management services to full tender in order to ensure the best value and price was obtained for the Society. This paid off in a building that reflects Indigenous design with a community building focus in its amenity areas. It provides much needed housing to low-income seniors and families.

Terra worked with the team to obtain LEED Gold certification. This was definitely a challenge in a small northern community that has limited access to recycling, transportation and other factors which affect LEED point calculation; however the team worked together to ensure it would happen.
