"If you are embarking on a building project and, as we did, lack the expertise and knowledge required to bring the project to fruition, I would recommend Terra Housing.  Their knowledgeable and qualified professionals in housing and social service building development were instrumental in leading us through a very challenging and complex process."

Patricia Woroch, Chief Executive Officer, ISSofBC

“Without Terra Housing, Simon Davie and Shamir Bhatia, there would be no project at all. Many months and years were dedicated to changing the mind of the community to find support in our much needed affordable assisted living project. Without the negotiating and communication skills of both Simon and Shamir the struggle would have been impossible.”

Jeanette Dagenais, Administrator, Langley Lions Senior Citizens Housing Society

"The City of Quesnel is highly satisfied with Terra Housing's professional service.  Terra's level of expertise on housing issues is exceptional, and their execution on this housing study was thorough, concise, and accurate.  In particular, we appreciate Terra's ability to deliver the scope of work within limited time and budget.  I would gladly recommend Terra housing Consultants, without reservation, to any similar or housing related consulting services."

Tanya Turner, City Planner, City of Quesnel

“HFBC Housing Foundation first hired Terra in 1990 to assist with the development of a large property (3 acres) known as Lions View. The Foundation had been unsuccessful in numerous attempts to find a redevelopment solution that would serve the purposes of the society as well as meet the many requirements of various levels of government. Jim O’Dea and Stuart Thomas worked with our Board of Directors to formula a vision, build partnerships with a developer/architect team, and negotiate with numerous government agencies as well as all three levels of government, resulting in a successful project that has become a model for redevelopment of sites for affordable housing. Since that first major success story we have worked with Terra Housing to develop another five projects…and sought their advice on the purchase of six apartment projects.”

Barbara Bacon, Executive Director, HFBC Housing Foundation

“Terra Housing's vast experience in the non-profit sector has helped us immensely in the following areas:

  • Building good relationships, facilitating consultations and providing strategic advice in our dealings with a wide variety of partners (BC Housing, health authorities, municipalities, etc.);
  • Developing and implementing project plans from site acquisition to project completion;
  • Providing a variety of support services - reviewing documents, claim processing, etc.

All of the above services and others too numerous to mention have been delivered to us in a careful, considerate and professional manner. I would gladly recommend Terra Housing Consultants, without reservation, for any project management role.”

Bonnie Rice, Executive Director, Sanford Housing Society

“Affordable Housing has retained Terra as development consultant on 30 projects, all but one of these projects involving new construction. The projects include everything from rather standard family townhouses in the suburban communities and wood frame apartments for seniors to large and very complex projects in Vancouver's downtown core. In all cases Terra did an excellent job putting together the projects, helping move them through the various approval processes and processing the paperwork during the construction.

The best example of a complex project involving funding from different governments and multiple partners is Seymour Place. The successful development of this project demonstrated Terra's strengths:

  1. negotiating and communication skills required to help articulate and ensure the needs of a number of varied interests are met through the development process.
  2. an in depth understanding of the development process beginning with securing land, helping assemble a development team including design professionals and a builder, moving the project through the municipal approval process and contract administration during the construction.
  3. the ability to navigate project proposals through the approval processes of the funding agencies such as CMHC, BC Housing and the Health Authorities.”
Bob Nicklin, General Manager, Affordable Housing Societies

The Terra team was both positive and realistic in their planning for each of the proposed plans. They remained enthusiastic even though previous plans had not been successful. Through sheer perseverance, they managed to at last assist us with securing and renovating a suitable new site for our Adult Day Centre. The time frame from negotiation of the lease to occupancy was extremely tight. Through careful management of the process at each and every stage, the Terra team was able to ensure that our new home was ready by the required date. I was impressed with the knowledge base and diversity of skills that team members displayed. They were always prompt, courteous and professional. They followed through on each important aspect of the project and their business contacts were helpful and reliable.

Christine Stardom, Executive Director, A.S.K. Friendship Centre

Terra Housing's comprehensive background in housing policy as well as considerable experience in public and stakeholder engagement were big assets in developing the White Rock strategy on time and on budget. Their expertise and dedication to this project was impressive. They maintained frequent contact with staff and the Steering Committee. The materials and documents they provided were excellent. We would gladly recommend Terra Housing Consultants for future housing policy and development consulting services.

R. Paul Stanton, Director of Planning and Development Services, City of White Rock

“Terra Housing Consultants has worked with the Society for over ten years. Their expertise in project management, development advice and change management skills have contributed to our success. Their most recent work with the Society was an asset management review to support strategic planning and development of new housing options. We have found Terra’s commitment to customer service exceptional. We appreciate the time Terra invests to fully understand the needs of the Society and the people it serves. It is a creative organization that excels at reducing complex problems into achievable solutions.”
