Nikkei Seniors Health Care and Housing Society

Nikkei Home is a visionary campus-style housing project which allows residents to age in place. This project, the first ever new construction project for non-profit assisted living in British Columbia, combines 35 units of assisted living and 24 supportive housing units. It is located adjacent to the New Sakura-so, a 34-unit seniors project for independent living, creating a housing continuum.

Terra acted as development consultant on both projects, working closely with the Society for over eight years. Terra worked with the Society and other partners in developing the program model, the contract for care services with Fraser Health Authority and with BC Housing to ensure all operating requirements for both projects were in place.

The project is designed to be part of an affordable housing community which respects both Japanese and non-Japanese cultural values. The Nikkei National Museum and Cultural Centre is next door to Nikkei Home. Residents have a large degree of independence in day-to-day living; trained, qualified staff offer personal support and care 24 hours per day.
