When Stuart met Jim...
In 1982, Stuart Thomas had just successfully worked with fellow residents to convert their rental apartment building into a housing co-operative and was now keenly aware of the challenges involved. By chance, Stuart attended a conference held at UBC, where he was drawn to a dynamic fellow attendee in the crowd. Jim O'Dea, who at the time was Manager of Housing Programs and Operating Agreements in Vancouver at Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation was clearly the man to talk to about housing.
Working together, Jim and Stuart recognized that many not-for-profit groups wanted to develop affordable housing projects, but needed someone with experience and knowledge who would help put their interests first during the development process. They decided to pool their services and expertise and began a partnership that has lasted more than three decades.
In 1985, Stuart and Jim incorporated their new business venture, Terra Housing Consultants, dedicated to providing development expertise to clients. Simon Davie joined the team and became a partner in 2003. Terra Housing has grown to be one of the most experienced social purpose real estate development management firms in the country. Our staff of dedicated professionals has a comprehensive range of skills to address all development management challenges.
